6 Easy Steps Guide for Embryo Transfer
1) BOOKING IN
booking form can be downloaded from the website & this needs to be completed & returned to us with a deposit of £230 (£200 + VAT) along with laboratory certificates with negative results for CEM & EVA valid for the current breeding season. If your mare is residing with us we will also require an Animal Health Trust Laboratory strangles blood test result taken within 28 days prior to arrival. It is important at this stage to confirm any necessary arrangements with the stallion owner/agent. Any questions you have at this stage can be answered in person by one of our team. Please make sure that you have read the price list and understand the cost implications of embryo transfer.

2) ADMISSION & INSEMINATION
Once we have received your booking form, you will be contacted to arrange a suitable start date so your mare can be admitted into the programme. If you are using fresh or chilled semen, an admission fee of £500 is payable to us which covers up to 4 unproductive cycles. If a fifth or subsequent cycle is required a further £500 needs to be paid. Mares using frozen semen do not pay an admission fee since they are invoiced on a per procedure basis. Any recipient mares you have need to be brought to us at this stage. Your mare will need to be checked continually to assess the optimum time for insemination and this is done by us or if necessary by your vet if they are skilled enough in the field of equine reproduction. During this stage we will be in constant communication with you, your vet (if applicable), the stallion agent (if we are inseminating) and the recipient herd regarding your mare’s progress.

3) FLUSHING
Approximately 8 days after the ovulation date your mare’s uterus will be flushed & this fluid is passed through a filter. The filter will then be taken into the lab & searched for an embryo.

4) TRANSFER

If an embryo is found it is placed into a suitable recipient mare which will have been synchronised with your donor mare. You can provide your own recipients or use one from our 160 strong recipient herd. If you are providing your own recipient mares, we recommend that you find 3 mares for every embryo you wish to obtain. This ratio can drop slightly as the number of embryos wanted increases. Any recipient mares must be assessed for suitability by us before entering the programme and then reside with us from when your donor mare is admitted into the programme until they are 60 days pregnant or the donor mare leaves if they are not
pregnant.

5) PREGNANCY
The recipient will be scanned at around 14, 25, 42 & 60 days to monitor the status of the pregnancy.

6) GOING HOME
Once the pregnancy has reached 60 days it is then classed as safe and the pregnant recipient can then go home with the owner of the embryo. A fee of £1000 is due when a 60 day pregnancy is achieved. If a recipient is being rented from BET then a rental fee of £1250 is also due. All fees need to be paid before the mares leave. Rented recipients are returned to us at a mutually convenient time once the foal has been weaned, approximately 18 months later. We are always available to offer advice & guidance at any stage.
